The August speaker was our own Ann Dale

Sharing experiments with colour that can be done safely with children. Ann started by handing out containers of various sizes containing mystery contents.

The initial idea was to see what colours are contained in other colours-one way was to put a coloured dot from a felt pen on a piece of tissue and allowing the tissue to just make contact with water in a glass, the moisture allowed the various colours to seep from the dot on the tissue.

Ann handed out a beaker containing a browny/maroon coloured smelly liquid! which the members were asked to identify, surprisingly it was from mashed up red cabbage, this produced purple shades.

Other experiments were with household ingredients like lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar. By mixing some of these a frothy foam was created.

This fun evening was enjoyed by the members.
